After missing out on a spot at the Club World Cup with Club América, Brian Rodríguez addressed his future upon arriving in Uruguay, where he will join the national team for the upcoming 2026 World Cup qualifiers. La Celeste will face Paraguay on Thursday and Venezuela next Tuesday.
The América winger confirmed Inter Miami’s interest in signing him
“Inter Miami’s interest is real. It’s been talked about for a couple of weeks now,” Rodríguez said. “I spoke with Luis Suárez about the club – it was an honor to talk to him. He spoke highly of the team. There’s a real chance it could happen. I still have a contract with América, and that must be respected, so I hope things work out for the best, for me and for the club.”
Rodríguez also admitted he’s weighing multiple options, including a potential move to Europe. He called the potential to play with Lionel Messi and Suarez in MLS a "big dream."
“There’s a possibility of going to Spain. That would be my preference,” he said. “But on the other hand, playing alongside Suárez and Messi… that carries a lot of weight. It’s a big dream.”
He added that he will speak with Uruguay head coach Marcelo Bielsa before making any decisions:
“I’ve spoken with Bielsa before, when there was a possible move to Fiorentina," he said. "He even talked to the club back then. I’d like to hear what he thinks now.”

Javier Mascherano’s team is set to debut in the tournament on June 14, against Al Ahly. That means if Inter want Rodríguez to be part of their squad for the summer competition, they’ll need to act quickly to finalize the transfer during the pre-CWC window, which runs from June 1-10.
Rodríguez has totaled 23 goals and 15 assists in 104 appearances for the Coapa-based club.

On the painful end to América’s season – losing the Clausura 2025 Final and failing to qualify for the Club World Cup after a loss to LAFC – Rodríguez didn’t hide his frustration.
“It wasn’t the season we dreamed of," he said. "We let the final slip away, and we missed out on the World Cup spot. For the fans and for the club, it was a big disappointment. But now it’s time to lift our heads and keep working. We’ll try again.”
