According to The Sun, Pep Guardiola is considering launching a £60 million bid to land Wolves’ Ruben Neves in January having missed out on Jorginho in the summer.
What’s the story?
Neves has made a blistering start to life in the Premier League, following Wolves’ promotion into the English top flight. The 21-year-old scored a stunning goal and provided an assist in the club’s opening game against Everton.
The young Portuguese international’s fine form has already apparently attracted the attentions of elite level clubs.
As per the aforementioned report, Manchester City are pondering a surprise swoop for Wolves’ midfield dynamo.
Of course, the Midlands outfit would prefer to keep Neves at the club, but City are more than capable of making an offer that Nuno Espirito Santo can’t refuse. In that case, the manager will need to act fast to bring a suitable replacement to Molineux.
Chelsea’s Danny Drinkwater ought to be at the top of Santo’s list of contenders to step into Neves’ breach.

Man for the moment
Since his big money move to Stamford Bridge last summer, Drinkwater has failed to establish himself as a first team regular for the Blues.
The 28-year-old’s lack of regular game time has seen him fall out of international contention too. If the midfielder wants to ever add to his 3 England caps, and rediscover the kind of form that helped Leicester City to their shock Premier League title triumph, then he must get back to playing week in week out soon.
A move to Wolves would allow him to become a starter once more, and would provide him the opportunity to remind the footballing world of his quality.
Equally, from Wolves’ perspective, Drinkwater’s Premier League experience, work rate, and impressive passing range could all see him become a key part of their midfield set up.
