Steven Gerrard has reportedly agreed a two-year contract extension at Al-Ettifaq despite his team's poor form and with Jordan Henderson set to leave.

According to the former England international has agreed to pen a contract extension that will bind him to the Saudi Pro League club until 2027. Despite their dismal form the board is backing Gerrard and has vowed to provide him with new signings to turn around their fortunes in the SPL around.

Gerrard joined Al-Ettifaq in July 2023 following his departure from Aston Villa in October 2022. Since his move, he team have struggled for consistency and the Dammam-based outfit are currently on a winless run of eight matches and are rooted to eighth spot with just 25 points from 19 matches. Moreover, the imminent departure of Henderson from the club will weaken the midfield. However, since the SPL is on a break due to the ongoing AFC Asian Cup, Gerrard has ample time to seek a replacement for the veteran midfielder.

Before managing Aston Villa, Gerrard had a successful three-year stint with Rangers, guiding them to the Scottish Premiership title in the 2020-21 season. However, it was reported that the manager did have reservations about taking up the role in Saudi Arabia before finally embracing the offer.
