It’s fair to say Rafael Benitez hasn’t exactly enjoyed the best of relationships with Chelsea fans since his time in English football.

The Spaniard’s reign at rivals Liverpool saw the side go up against the Blues on numerous occasions, and his later temporary stay as caretaker manager at Stamford Bridge didn’t necessarily work out either, despite winning the Europa League.

Benitez has since performed some minor miracles at Newcastle, guiding the Magpies back into the Premier League from the Championship, and has led the side to some very impressive performances and results.

However, after a report from Italian publication Tuttosport linked Benitez with a possible return to Stamford Bridge as Maurizio Sarri’s potential successor, many Blues fans took to social media to reveal their shock and frustrations at the news.

Many described the move as a ‘joke’, and claimed that it could go down as being one of the worst decisions to have been made by the club.

Indeed, some fans’ anger at the report even led them to claim that they would stop supporting the Blues as a result, and urged the club to look at fan favourite Frank Lampard as an alternative instead.
